Frequently Asked Questions

I am looking for a job. How do I find one through ASTD? Check out our free Yahoo ListServe, (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/astdps) weekly e-bulletins, and network with your peers at our Chapter Events. My boss wants to see ROI on my various training programs. Where can I resource that information? Both our ASTD PS and National ASTD websites have information on this topic, as well as links to other resources. We also have past newsletters and related articles available online. I want to add to my toolbox. What kind of programs does ASTD offer that would help me do that? We have many programs that would help, including the HPI (Human Performance Improvement) certificate program, co-sponsored with Seattle Pacific University, monthly chapter meetings, workshops, and networking events (Professional Development Network sessions). If I volunteer for the one of the various committees, what will be expected of me? How much you get involved depends on you! Volunteering is an excellent way to get more involved! Each committee has a variety of responsibilities; it really depends upon your available time and interests. Please contact our VP of Volunteer Services for more information on how you help. Also check out our web site for additional information on committees that may interest you. Do you have corporate memberships? Yes. Some of the features of our corporate membership include membership flexibility, free chapter meeting vouchers, and opportunities to feature your company in our monthly newsletter. What are the cost savings of ASTD Puget Sound membership? Chapter dues are $75 annually and $50 for students. Renewals are $65 and $50, respectively. Membership includes reduced fees for Chapter Programs, free attendance at Special Interest Groups, access to our on-line newsletter, access to the Membership Directory, other special seminars and conferences throughout the year, as well as the opportunity to network with others in the training and development field. Is National and Local ASTD membership the same thing? Why not? Membership in the local chapter is separate from membership in the national association. Both offer a variety of resources and information, as well as educational programs, networking, and opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Membership in our local chapter offers the additional advantage of contacts with the local training and development community, as well as local resources and educational programs. Why should I join the National ASTD? Additional resources and educational opportunities are the main two reasons to consider national membership. Our industry is always evolving! Membership in the National Association includes T&D Magazine, member access to the website, as well as access to benchmarking information and surveys and discounts on products in the ASTD Store. There is also the opportunity to attend international conferences and certification programs at discounted rates. How could I be a speaker at an event? Please contact our VP of Events. You will be asked to submit a program proposal for review.

Chapter Incentive Program (CHIP)

What is CHIP? The Chapter Incentive Program is a way of helping our local chapter financially, which in turn helps us create new programs. When you renew your membership, buy a book, or register for a national conference, just use the chapter source code (CH8020), and our chapter earns a revenue share. Each chapter has been assigned a source code (for Puget Sound Chapter = CH8020). When you use the chapter source code to purchase ASTD products and services, our chapter will get a portion of the revenue. Every person that uses the source code will be contributing to our chapter's financial health and look for a contest in the near future for members who use CHIP. Type your chapter source code into the box at Checkout. If you have a paper order form, write the chapter source code on it (CH8020).
